SmartMusic Review
SmartMusic is an interactive learning tool that enables students to practice and learn music at their own pace. It is an annual subscription that gives students access to the largest digital sheet music library with accompaniment in the world. SmartMusic allows students to play along with recordings of professional bands, and to hear their own performances as if they were in the classroom with their teacher. The program is designed to help students improve their performance at a faster rate, both in the classroom and at home.
The SmartMusic system uses an array of algorithms to provide personalized instruction and feedback. It also helps teachers create assignments and track student progress over time. The software is accessible from the web and is available for both iPads and PCs. Students receive immediate feedback on their performance and can practice at their own pace, making it easy to learn music.
Students can use practice tools such as a tuner, fingerings, metronome, and accompaniment. They can choose loops that play over and over, set a tempo for each loop, and select whether to increase the tempo after each loop. They can also record themselves externally and upload it to the site for assessment. SmartMusic provides an assessment grade for each assignment. Green noteheads indicate that the pitch was played correctly and at the correct time, while red notes indicate incorrect pitches or timing.
The SmartMusic library includes tens of thousands of titles, from current pop hits and movie and TV themes to classical and folk and multicultural music. Repertoire choices are organized by genre, instrument type and skill level, featured publishers, and categories (e.g., free selections, jazz improvisation). Students can search for titles using different filters such as sheet music format (PDF or MIDI), genres, instruments, and difficulty levels.
